Cable Removal
The 2002 National Electric Code
has made it mandatory to not leave unused wiring in the walls,
ceilings, and floors of any building. Section 800.53 of
the 2002 NEC states, "Abandoned cables shall not be permitted to
remain." Basically, if the
cables are not terminated at both ends to a connector or other
equipment, and if they're not tagged for future use, they are
considered abandoned and must be removed before the
building space can be further leased, sold, or rented.
According to estimates, there is more than 45 billion feet of
plenum cable in place in buildings currently.
